Energy Transition Week 2026 – Workshop on Scenarios
On March 19th 2026, iDesignRES (upon the lead of NTNU) co-organsied a Workshop on Energy Transition Scenarios, together EERA and the ECMF, as part of NTNU’s Energy Transition Week.
This international event gathered leading energy system modelling teams from Europe and US, alongside representatives from industry and other stakeholders.
The workshop aimed to explore key dimensions of the energy transition, examining how long-term modelling can integrate and balance key policy objectives: climate ambition, energy security and competitiveness.
Participants engaged in four thematic sessions, each addressing core dimensions influencing future transition pathways. Discussions focused on the interactions between energy and climate systems, but also on real-world constraints such as access to skilled workforce, investment needs, risk considerations, and the availability of critical raw materials.
This exchange contributed to a deeper collective understanding of how scenario approaches can support strategic decision-making for Europe’s transition, and highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts across the modelling community.
