Last week on 25-26 March 2025, our coordinator NTNU participated in the Openmod 2025 workshop, an initiative of the Open Energy Modelling Initiative, hosted by KTH dES – Division of Energy Systems in Stockholm, Sweden. This event gathered experts, researchers, and practitioners to discuss the latest advancements in open-source energy system modeling and planning.

iDesignRES was part of the conversation, contributing to discussions on the importance of open-source tools and high-resolution data for effective energy system planning. NTNU also led a breakout session, focusing on best practices, key challenges, and considerations for ensuring transparency and accessibility in energy research.

Engaging with the Openmod community provided valuable insights and reinforced the need for collaborative, data-driven approaches to support the energy transition.

A big thank you to the Open Energy Modelling Initiative and all participants for fostering such an inspiring space for exchange and innovation. We look forward to continuing these discussions and integrating key takeaways into our work within iDesignRES!

📢 Stay tuned for more updates as we push forward with open, high-resolution energy modeling!
