As part of iDesignRES‘s ongoing dissemination push, Professor Henrik Lund of Aalborg University, one of the 22 partners behind the project, took the stage as a plenary keynote speaker at the VII International Scientific and Technical Conference “Modern Power Systems and Units” (MPSU), held in a hybrid format from 20 to 22 May 2026 at Cracow University of Technology’s main campus.

His talk, titled “Smart Renewable Energy Systems and Climate Neutral Societies,” fit squarely within the conference’s core focus areas: fuels and energy sources, renewable integration, and thermal energetics. MPSU brings together academics, industry professionals, and municipal stakeholders from Poland and abroad to exchange technical ideas on the transition away from fossil fuels, with the Polish Academy of Sciences and Krakow’s municipal authorities among the event’s supporters.

Around 100 to 200 people from the scientific community and industry attended the session, which gave Lund a platform to introduce Central and Eastern European audiences to the Smart Energy Systems approach developed at Aalborg University, the same systems thinking that underpins iDesignRES’s own open-source modelling toolbox. The concept, which emphasizes sector coupling between electricity, heating, transport, and industry rather than treating each in isolation, is at the heart of how the project approaches its five real-world demonstration cases across Europe.
